Description

2′-Azido-2′-deoxyuridine is a nucleoside analog that suppresses the herpes simplex virus by preventing viral RNA from being converted into mRNA and protein. Inactivated 2′-azido-2′-deoxyuridine hinders viral DNA replication, resulting in cell death via blocking protein synthesis. This medication also inhibits mammalian cells and has been found to reduce cell proliferation in vitro.
