Description

The nucleotide analog 2′-Azido-2′-deoxyuridine-5′-triphosphate acts as an allosteric inhibitor of numerous DNA polymerases, inhibiting cell proliferation. 2′-Azido-2′-deoxyuridine-5′-triphosphate binds to ATP’s phosphate group, inhibiting protein synthesis. In specifically, it inhibits the polymerase activity of herpes simplex virus type 1 by binding to the enzyme’s active site, blocking viral replication. 2′-Azido-2′-deoxyuridine-5′-triphosphate also binds to cytosolic Ca2+ and activates Ca2+ signaling pathways, which causes cell death.
